Exciting direction, neural models for algebraic reasoning. State of art can't go beyond basic algebra, if that. "For example, on one trained Transformer, the question “Calculate 17 * 4.” gave the correct answer 68, but the same question without the final full stop gave 69." twitter.com/DeepMindAI/sta…

We will research how mathematics services, can keep up with the growth in publications and mathematical research artifacts of different kinds (such as mathematical software, formal proofs, data models).

Moritz Schubotz

The department provides mathematics services, i.e., zbMATH, which organizes and reviews the world's literature in mathematics and related areas since 1931.

After two and a half fantastic years at the Gipp group mt.uni-wuppertal.de, it's time for me to move on to new challenges. From April 1st I will join the mathematics department of FIZ Karlsruhe to build my research group on mathematical information retrieval.

BIOGRAPHY

Moritz Schubotz (Dr. rer. nat.) is a senior researcher at the Data & Knowledge Engineering Group at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. Together with the Ph.D. students Cornelius Ihle and Stephan Leible he investigates the potential of Blockchain Technology to advance the Open Science movement. As an Wikimedia Open Science Fellow Moritz is committed to the FAIR principles and advocates for Open Science in general. As a theoretical physicist he follows his passion to make mathematics machine readable. André Greiner-PetterPhilipp Scharpf and Felix Petersen share this special interest and research methods and tools to make mathematical expressions more useful for humans and computers.

He is offsite collaborator at NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology, U.S.A) since 2014 and was a fellow at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo, Japan from July 2017 to August 2018. Earlier, he earned a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Computer Science from TU Berlin, Germany.

He has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to numerous successful grant applications at his former universities. He served for several years as elected member in several commissions (Fakultätsrat (faculty board), Haushaltsausschuss (financial steering committee), Akademischer Senat (university board), and others) in the university self-administration.

In his spare time, he enjoys team sport in the water such as canoe polo and water polo.
